Exercise Your Right to Accessorize!

Hello!

I’d like to start this post (my first one, so please bear with me) by sharing a little bit about myself. My name is Jessica, and I have been working in the fashion retail industry for nearly ten years. The last four years have been at a local Halifax, NS boutique- Biscuit General Store- which has really opened my eyes and mind to the wonderful world of fashion. The strong influence from this gem of a shop, the wonderful people behind it, and the lovely customers that shop there, has helped make who I am today and has led me to this path of fashion and style consulting. With that said, I’d like to thank all the “Biscuits” for the incredible love and support they have given me and continue to give. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.

Now to the fun stuff-

For my first post, I want to share one simple tip that will help you make any outfit look finished and well thought out (without trying too hard). In one word- Accessorize. By pairing the right accessories with your outfit, you can create a cohesive look and give your outfit that little extra oomph.

Accessorizing can include anything from putting on a statement piece of jewelery, an eye-catching handbag, a pretty scarf, killer shoes, even a garment like a blazer- the list goes on. Keep in mind that there is such a thing as accessory overkill, so keep it to one or two (maybe three) key pieces as finishing touches. Accessorizing will complete any outfit for any personal style as well, whether it’s classic, boho, chic, even for those jeans and tee kind of gals. It’s this style that I want to focus on today.

So you like your classic Levi’s and your tee- whether it’s white, black, coloured, or graphic- it’s easy. By accessorizing you can spruce your look up and even take it from day to evening. Wear an interesting and eye-catching (what I like to call “statement”) necklace, throw on a simple open blazer, maybe a few bangles or a mens inspired watch and Voila! You have turned those jeans and tee into a cohesive and finished ensemble. For day: wear your favourite Converse high-tops or cute ankle booties. Going out for casual drinks in the evening? Trade those Cons in for a simple pair of pumps (in any colour you see fit) and you’re ready to go!

Happy Accessorizing!

XO Jessica

About Wear and When Vintage

We are two students with a penchant for discovering hidden gems and an obsession with all things vintage and fashion. We've started a shop on Etsy.com called Wear and When Vintage. We've spent countless hours searching online and at local vintage shops for treasures - so much so that opening our own Etsy shop seemed like the natural next step! Our favourite eras are between the 40’s and 70’s but we do curate vintage inspired items from other periods. We sell affordable, carefully handpicked/handmade items of quality; we would never sell anything we wouldn’t wear ourselves! Please, take a look around our shop on etsy.com, and send us a note about anything you like at orders[at]wearandwhen.ca. We will respond to you within one day. Happy shopping!
